Preparation
Whenever enough time has passed, you’ll want to start gathering the supplies necessary to check your oil. But before you do so, make sure that it’s placed on a flat surface. Otherwise, you may inaccurately measure the quantity of the oil reservoir. Additionally, if your model has been active recently, you’ll want to give it some time to cool down. As for materials, you’ll want to grab some kind of light-colored cloth or paper towel, as this is what you’ll wipe the oil onto. Don’t forget a set of gloves as well, so you can prevent getting any substances on your hands.
Checking Your Oil
Once you raise the hood, you’ll want to search for the dipstick. This is often indicated by a bright colored cap which can be unscrewed and removed. After doing so, you will want to wipe off any of the residue onto the cloth. If it is a darker color and is starting to feel somewhat sludgy, then you’ll want to make sure that you have it replaced as soon as possible. If not, place the dipstick as deep as it goes into the oil reserve and remove it once more. There should be two marks on the metal rod, with one indicating that your supply is too low.
