The new sixth-gen 4Runner retains many of the same trims from the previous year, but with some significant new additions that further boost its comfort and capabilities.

One of the biggest changes between the 2025 and 2024 4Runner is its available engines. The V6 is officially out, and it’s been replaced by one of two powertrain options:

Both motors offer a significant improvement in gas mileage and power, allowing the 2025 4Runner to tow up to 6,000 pounds, which is 1,000 more than last year’s model. The i-FORCE MAX also comes with a standard Drive Mode Select to tweak driving dynamics with the twist of a dial.

Aside from the brand-new engine options, the all-new 4Runner is built on a strengthened platform. It also has many returning features that aid in off-road performance:
